GOP Captures Weiner's New York Congressional Seat

The Drudge Report dubs it "Revenge of the Jews." Political newcomer Bob Turner (R) has defeated a veteran New York Assemblyman, David Heprin, in a special congressional election to fill the vacancy of former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner for New York's 9th District, a heavily Democratic district that includes Queens and portions of Brooklyn. Turner carried the district, which includes a large concentration of Orthodox Jews, by six percentage points by linking his opponent to President Barack Obama and his failed economic policies. Last-minute pitches by former President Bill Clinton and Gov. Andrew Cuomo weren't enough to save David Heprin's campaign against Turner. The Washington Post suggests Obama's policies towards Israel hurt Heprin among the district's Jewish voters, who typically favor Democratic candidates by large numbers.
