For this reason, the French carmaker will use a compact motor to reduce fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions. An engine that is small in size, gasoline, with three cylinders, which was carried out starting from the example of the Twin-cylinder petrol, which was entirely designed and produced by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and the 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine for Ford.

The new engine will be presented at Renault next year, specifically during the Geneva Motor Show 2012, at the launch of the new generation Renault Clio, compact utility that will be the first car in the range to use this engine. Land Rover Defender Release Date

The opportunity arose with our recent trip to the United Kingdom, where we tested the Range Rover Evoque and visited the Halewood plant, which is produced with the Freelander: Solihull bring men to the fate of another fundamental model for the House, the heir of the legendary off-road Defender. At the Frankfurt Motor Show (15-25 September), will unveil a concept that anticipates the remake of an icon already in circulation since 1947. The fate of the new model are uncertain, however, giving rise to the occurrence of three possible scenarios.

BETTING ON CONTINUITY ‘MOTOR
The task of replacing a car as part of the Land Rover Defender certainly among the toughest in the automotive industry. For over 60 years, the vehicle is in perfect English of a domain virtually unchallenged – except in the presence of the Jeep Wrangler – heavy-duty applications and user support for military, civil protection and rescue around the world. The qualities of half functional and rugged off-road caused by the architecture without compromise, with a separate chassis and body and characteristic corners to deal with the more extreme steps, coupled with engines rated reliability and updated over time to meet emissions standards that gradually have followed on over the years. With the 4-cylinder turbo-diesel common-rail 2.4-liter and 122 hp reached the standard for approval is the “Euro 4″, and just keep motoring along the road of evolution, maintaining the current model in production, is one of the avenues for the future of the Defender.

RENEWING THE TRADITION “BRITISH”, BUT FORMER COLONY
The first scenario would see on the fate of the Defender off-road so the steel in the original plans to continue living, changing from time to time the first engine to fit within the limits of the Euro 5 standards, then those Euro 6. The reasons for a strategy, let’s say, prudent management of the Land Rover are not based on awe, however, only connected to the replacement of a trademark symbol. There are in fact even more prosaic considerations, related to sales numbers.: The approximately 20,000 units annually delivered across Europe do not cover costs that are behind the industrial development of the four body variants currently found in the catalog. The countless combinations conferred by the various special equipments multiply then the investment required to achieve and maintain the production lines, so that could be redesigned and made in India, so the scenario that would host the second option provided for the future of the Defender.

THE FUTURE OF THE PAST ON THE “NEW”
The lower cost of labor in the great Asian country – for, in short, to become the second global car market, after China – is not the only reason that would justify the creation of a new Land Rover factory in India. The parent company Tata, which in 2008 it acquired the brand from Ford, is in fact an Indian multinational company that would invest in its territory to create a modern production facility designed to build on the same platform, in addition to the new Defender, even the heirs of 4 Discovery and Range Rover Sport. Everything is left to the financial analysis on an industry like this, however, leaving room for a third option: not to proceed with the Defender and abandon the segment of off-road without compromise. For purists of the brand is therefore one hope: hope that the new Range Rover Evoque keep its promises of success that surround the act of conception. Only in this way, the parent can afford to invest in the new Defender, avoiding that their traditions may be lost.
