From their appearance last year as part of the Belgian Touring Car Series, the VW Scirocco W Racing Team had played the title in the T3 category, the duo-Smits Latinne not bowing as a twist of fate. This year will be joined by Ronnie Latinne Koen Wauters and two pilots dream of a podium – or even win – from the kick-off this weekend at Zolder.

“The goal is the title in the category T3 and some nice performance overall,” says Ronnie Latinne outset, one of the revelations of the 2010 season. The young Wanzois, narrowly defeated last year when he was joined by Jean-Jacques Smits, receives this year reinforcing Koen Wauters, the leader of Dutch Clouseau who constantly demonstrate their skills behind the wheel. For me, having Koen as teammate is a good thing. On the one hand because of a media point of view, it is inevitable, but mainly because it is a very fast driver. From his first laps with the car, he proved that he does not need very long to understand how it works. I also noticed that it already has a sense of teamwork. He knows that we must help each other and we can look forward to our achievements. Our only goal is victory! But with the board announced, the fight looks very intense and I hope we can garner points from the first meeting in Zolder.

If he has not perhaps the most powerful car, and Koen Wauters, Latinne, Ronnie attempt to exploit the qualities of their VW Scirocco to beat the competition. It really is a car very effective and very fun to drive,” says Koen Wauters at the end of the test-day Zolder. She’s very reactive, it offers a very good ride … We feel confident at the wheel. For now, I’m not very far from the lap of Ronnie. I will do everything to get closer and I know I can count on working for me. It’s fast, friendly and team spirit. Plus, I think it is a reliable driver. Our Scirocco is also normally very reliable. So we have a good shot to play this year. I look forward to it starts!

If the car of Ronnie and Koen Wauters Latinne officially receives support from the importer Volkswagen, VW Scirocco will be a second line for Jean-Jacques Smits and the French Claude-Yves Gosselin, who flew both Already a Scirocco W Racing Team last year. If this duo should be a little slower in pure speed, he can still rely on the reliability and regularity to be talked about in the first two races of the Belgian Touring Car Series 2011 scheduled this weekend at Zolder. The departure of the first will be given on Saturday at 13.55 while the second game will be held Sunday, just after the event World Championship FIA GT1, starting at 16:15. To not miss those first laps of the BTCS 2011, See you in Zolder! As they say over there!

Dominik Schwager and Nicky Pastorelli in the No.37 All-Inkl Munnich Motorsport Lamborghini secured their second consecutive pole position in a typically frantic GT1 Qualifying session in Zolder.

Having topped the time sheets in the opening round in Abu Dhabi, the German-Italian duo posted a fastest lap time of 1:27.691. Second was the No.7 Young Driver Aston Martin of Alex Muller and Tomas Enge with the sister Young Driver Aston of Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke third.

However, the final grid formation for the today’s Qualifying Race will undergo a major reshuffle following a spate of penalties handed out in yesterday’s Pre-Qualifying session.

The punishments for failing to slow down under waved yellow flags mean that the No.7 car will take a three-place drop. The No.11 Exim Bank Team China Corvette of Mike Hezemans and Nicky Catsburg, which qualified an impressive fourth, is similarly affected.

The other sinners are the No.40 Marc VDS Ford GT (they also receive a five place penalty in the Championship Race for an engine change), the Nissan No.23, the All-Inkl No.38 and the Nissan No.20.

In Q1, the early pace was set by the Aston Martins. Enge and Mucke leading the way from the Hexis No.4 of Christian Hohenadel and Andrea Piccini.

The Marc VDS Ford GT No.41 of Maxime Martin and Fred Makowiecki, fastest in Free Practice on Friday, weighed into the battle as sharp end as did the Nissans of Jamie Campbell-Walter/David Brabham and the second Young Driver Aston of Enge and Muller.

Michael Rossi/Jamie Camara flew the flag for Corvette in the DKR Engineering No.47, albeit briefly.

As the first Qualifying session ended it was the Ford GT No.41 which topped the pile followed by the Young Driver AMR No.8 and the Sumo Power GT No.21.

The big casualty from Q1 was the Hexis Aston Martin of Clivio Piccione and Stef Dusseldorp, the Championship Race winners in Abu Dhabi. They placed 16th and failed to make it through to Q2.

Unfortunately for home hopes, both Belgian Racing Ford GTs missed the cut as did the No.6 SRT Lamborghini of Max Nilsson and Jiri Janak.

The joy for the Ford GT No.41 was short-lived as Fred Makowiekci, talking over from Martin, lost the back end of the car at turn one an clipped the tyre wall. He managed to limp back to the pits. The extensive rear body work damage was patched up and Mako resumed but they could not advance to the top 8 for the shootout.

Also missing out was the sister Marc VDS No.40, the Lamborghinis of SRT, the No.5 and the All-Inkl No.38. The Sumo Power No.22 of Enrique Bernoldi and Riccardo Zonta and the DKR Corvette No.47 also stumbled at the second hurdle.

The line-up for the Qualifying Race sees the No.37 Lamborghini at the head of the pack with the Young Driver Aston No.8 second and the No.22 JRM Nissan GT-R third.

The No.7 Young Driver Aston is relegated to fourth and the and the No.11 Corvette to sixth.

Home fans will need to be at their most vocal with the Marc VDS No.41 down in 10th and the No.40 car in 16th.
